Most of us have heard of mindfulness or mindful living, which seems to be all about being calm and relaxed. Although being mindful can help us feel more relaxed, there is a lot more to it than that.
We spend an awful lot of our lives on autopilot; we are often so caught up in our thoughts that we don't notice what's actually happening in our present experience, like when we're taking a shower, driving to work, or walking to the shops. Mindful living is about "waking up" to our daily lives and perhaps taking a fresh approach to whatever comes up, rather than always falling into our old habits of thinking. When we're mindful, we notice more of what we're feeling, whether up or down - and what's going on around us at this moment.
Being mindful helps us to become fully present in all the ups and downs of our lives. It can help us learn how to really find joy in the good things in our lives and cope with the difficult things. Mindful living helps us to know who we are deep inside, to believe in ourselves, and to feel kinder towards ourselves. It can also help us build closer relationships, make clearer decisions about our lives and be more able to cope with problems as they arise. A mindful living course can help us to develop our ability to be mindful - to pay more attention to our lives and to take better care of ourselves and others.
